Why use the UTM Link Builder

    GA4 channel preview

See whether GA4 will count the visit as Paid Social, Email, Organic Search or Unassigned, before you send the link.

    Presets

Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, newsletters and more, with the source and medium GA4 expects.

    Consistent values

Lowercase and spaces replaced by default, because GA4 treats Facebook and facebook as two sources.

    History

Your last links are kept in this browser to copy again.

When to use the UTM Link Builder

    Newsletters

Tag every link in an email so the visits land under Email.

    Paid social

Separate paid and organic posts on the same network.

    Partner links

Give each partner its own source to compare them.

    Offline campaigns

Build the url behind a QR code on a flyer or a poster.

    A/B tests

Use utm_content to tell two versions of an ad apart.

    Team conventions

Keep the whole team on the same naming.

    Understanding UTM Link Builder

    How to use the builder

    1. 1Url. The page people should land on.
    2. 2Preset. Pick the channel, or fill in source and medium yourself.
    3. 3Campaign. A short, lowercase name such as spring-sale-2026.
    4. 4Copy. Check the channel preview, then copy the link.

    The parameters

utm_source is where the visit comes from, such as google or newsletter. utm_medium is the kind of traffic, such as cpc, email or social. utm_campaign names the campaign. utm_term and utm_content are optional, for keywords and for versions of an ad. utm_id carries a campaign id for GA4 data imports.

    Do not tag internal links

UTM parameters on links inside your own site start a new session and overwrite the real source of the visit. Use them only on links that point to your site from elsewhere.

    Privacy

The generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Aback or anywhere else, and your last input is kept in this browser so a reload does not lose it.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which UTM parameters are required?

Google Analytics needs utm_source. Always add utm_medium and utm_campaign too, or the visit is hard to attribute.

    Are UTM values case sensitive?

Yes. GA4 reports Facebook and facebook as two sources. The builder lowercases values by default.

Why does my traffic show as Unassigned?

The source and medium did not match any GA4 channel rule. The channel preview shows the result before you send the link.

What medium should I use for paid social?

paid_social, or cpc, with the network as the source, such as facebook or linkedin. Then GA4 counts it as Paid Social.

    Do UTM parameters affect SEO?

Not if you use them only on external campaign links. Add a canonical tag to the landing page so tagged urls are not indexed separately.

    Can I shorten the link?

Yes. Paste the built url into any link shortener. The parameters survive the redirect.

    Is my link history stored?

Only in this browser. It is never sent to Aback.
