Understanding Schema Markup

How to use the generator

  1. 1Type. Choose what the page is about.
  2. 2Fields. Fill in what is true and visible on the page. Leave the rest empty.
  3. 3Copy. Paste the script tag into the head or the body of the page.
  4. 4Check. Run the structured data checker on the live page.

Mark up what is on the page

Structured data must describe content that visitors can see. Marking up reviews, prices or questions that are not on the page breaks search engine policies and can cost rich results.

Combining types

A page can carry several blocks, for example a WebSite on every page, an Article and a BreadcrumbList. Use stable @id values if you want them to reference each other.

Privacy and availability

The generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Aback or anywhere else, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

Copy or download the result and publish it on your own site. Then check the live file with the matching checker, because what crawlers see is what your server sends.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I put the JSON-LD?

Anywhere in the HTML, usually in the head. It must be in the server HTML, not added later by a script, to be read reliably.

Which type should my home page use?

Organization, or LocalBusiness for a physical business, plus WebSite.

Will this give me rich results?

Valid markup makes a page eligible. Search engines decide whether to show a rich result.

Do I need FAQ markup?

Only if the page is a list of questions and answers. Google now shows FAQ rich results for a small set of sites, but the markup is still a valid description.

What is sameAs for?

It links your organisation to its profiles elsewhere, such as LinkedIn, X or Wikipedia, which helps machines identify it.

Can I edit the output?

Yes. It is plain JSON. Add properties from schema.org as needed.

How do I validate it?

Run the structured data checker on the published page, and Google's Rich Results Test for eligibility.
