Open Graph Checker and social preview

When someone shares your page, the preview comes from its Open Graph and Twitter card tags. Check that they are complete and see a preview of the card.

Preview a shared link

Enter a page. Its social tags are read and the image is requested.

Runs 2 checks. A bare domain works, https:// is added for you.

Why use the Open Graph Checker

Card preview

A preview of the card built from the tags, with the image, title, description and host.

Image tested

The og:image is requested, so a broken or blocked image is caught before anyone shares the page.

Twitter card rules

The fields required by the card type are checked, for summary and summary_large_image.

Every tag listed

All og: and twitter: tags are shown with their values, ready to compare and copy.

When to use the Open Graph Checker

Before a launch post

Check the preview before announcing on LinkedIn, X or in a newsletter.

Blog templates

Confirm every article gets its own image and title rather than the site default.

Wrong image shared

Find out which tag a platform reads when it shows an old or wrong image.

Messaging apps

Slack, Teams, WhatsApp and iMessage previews come from the same tags.

Product pages

Make shared product links show the product, not the logo.

Agency QA

Add social previews to the launch checklist with a shareable report.

Understanding Open Graph

What Open Graph is

Open Graph is a set of meta tags, introduced by Facebook, that describe how a page should look when shared. LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and most other platforms read them. X reads its own twitter: tags and falls back to Open Graph.

The minimum set

  1. 1og:title. The headline of the card, usually the page title without the site suffix.
  2. 2og:description. One or two sentences that make the link worth opening.
  3. 3og:image. An absolute https url, ideally 1200 by 630 pixels, under a few megabytes.
  4. 4og:url and twitter:card. The canonical url of the page, and summary_large_image for a wide card on X.

Why previews stay wrong

Platforms cache previews, sometimes for days. After fixing the tags, refresh the cache with the platform's own inspector, such as the LinkedIn Post Inspector or the Facebook Sharing Debugger.

Privacy, safety and limits

The page is fetched by AbackAuditBot from Aback servers with an ordinary GET request. No cookie, password or form data is sent, and nothing on the site is changed.

The tags are read from the HTML the server sends. Tags that a script adds after the page loads are not seen, and neither are they by most crawlers and preview bots.

Frequently asked questions

What size should the og:image be?

1200 by 630 pixels works on every major platform. Keep the important part in the centre, since some platforms crop to a square.

Why is my image not showing?

The usual causes are a relative url, an image behind authentication or a firewall, a very large file, or a platform cache. The checker requests the image and reports its status.

Do I need Twitter card tags if I have Open Graph?

X falls back to Open Graph for most fields, but twitter:card is needed to choose the large image layout.

Does Open Graph affect SEO?

Not directly. It affects how links look and how often they are clicked when shared.

Can the tags be added by JavaScript?

Preview bots do not run JavaScript, so tags added on the client are not seen. Put them in the server HTML.

How do I refresh LinkedIn's preview?

Open the LinkedIn Post Inspector and inspect the url again. It fetches the page fresh and updates the cached card.

Is there a generator?

The meta tag generator writes Open Graph and Twitter tags together with the title and description.
